Course Description

This course covers all aspects of Software Development life cycle. Practical approach is used which gives participants hands-on experience in the analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, implementation, support, documentation and end-user training on software application. The course will also prepare the student for international recognized professional certification in Microsoft, ORACLE and GUPTA Technologies. Key focus of the course is

• ICT in society today and the impact of ICT on how establishment operate

Module 2(Week 1 to Week 2)

• Structured System Design Method (SSADM) – Traditional System Analysis and Design Method. Extract key portions introducing SSADM.
• Brief discussion on other methods: such as UML (Unified Modeling Language)

Module 3 (Week 3 to Week 4)
• Database Modeling and Design using ERWin/SQL
• Logical Database Modeling and Normalization (3RD Normal Form)
• Relational Database Modeling Techniques
• Databases and the WEB ( INTERNET)

Module 4 (Week 5 )
• Structured Query Language (SQL) and its application to Relational Databases

Module 5(Week 6 to Week 11)
• Physical Database Modeling using Relational Databases. Discussion on databases such as ORACLE, Microsoft SQLServer, SYBASE, INFORMIX, DB2, INGRES, MS Access and GUPTA SQLBase
• Key focus database : ORACLE , GUPTA SQLBase AND mySQL

Module 6 (Week 12 to Week 20)
• Software Programming using Object Oriented Programming and Design Techniques both in Windows and Web environment. Microsoft & GUPTA Tools.
• Rapid and Component Application Development Techniques. Programming
re-useable objects.
• Appreciation of Microsoft COM, DCOM, COM+ and Active-X Development.
• Discussion on other programming languages e.g. JAVA, ASP, Visual Basic, Delphi , PowerBuilder, PHP, and .NET
• N-Tier software application development. Overview of Client/Server Software Development.
• Web Database Development Techniques. Wireless Database Application Development Techniques (WAP). Developing Software Application for the INTERNET and Wireless Networks. Developing software for any end-device using Dataline NETDB.


Module 7 (Week 21)
• Software Testing Techniques using either Test Director or WinRunner.

Module 8 (Week 22)
• Software Project Management and Version Control using GUPTA Team Object Manager

Module 9 (Week 23)
• Software Deployment and Installation Techniques using either Install Shield or WISE

Module 10 (Week 24)
• Software On-line Help Development using RoboHelp

Module 11 (Week 25 for 2 to 3 months)
• Real life software development project for at least 3 months supervised by the Instructor. Develop and own a marketable software application of your choice.

Optional Module
• 2 months course on ‘How to run a successful software business’

Course Cost:

N490,000 for 6 - 9 months inclusive of all course materials and books.
Each student will be provided with a set of course material.

Optional Course Cost:N 200,000 for 2 months, 2 hours per session, 3 days per week (‘How to run a successful software business’)
