Our VSAT provision of choice is C-band VSAT - WHY?

Our choice of C-band is based on a robust technology which is due to the fact that the C-band can function normally in most inclement climate conditions.

C-Band has proved to be a very reliable replacement for the redundant and erratic Ku-Band. Electromagnetic waves such as radio and satellite links are affected by rain and heavy cloud cover. The effect on Ku-band is much greater than that on C-band but this is assuming that both links have been designed to the same specification. The potency of C-Band comes from the fact that it operates at a lower frequency than Ku Band.

Operating Frequencies:
C-band uses the 4.2 - 6.0 GHz frequency bandwidth.
Ku-band uses the 12.2 GHz - 14.6 GHz frequency bandwidth

This makes it less vulnerable to inclement weather conditions like heavy rains, high wind and interferences.

Generally in this part of the world, which is in the tropics, it is not advisable or reliable to use KU-Band because of the high volume of annual rainfall and turbulent winds and the serious damping effect it has on the KU-Band.
